City Highlights

Local Overview

Nestling in the heart of the Raheja Mindspace IT Park just five minutes from HITEC City and 15km from Hyderabad, The Westin Hyderabad Mindspace is the perfect choice for both business and leisure travel.

The speciality boutiques and vast bazaars of Abids Road are also nearby, where you'll find authentic sandals handmade from butter soft leather and dazzling jewellery shops packed with colourful bangles.

A city with a rich 400-year-old history, Hyderabad has witnessed the rise and fall of many empires including the Qutub Shahi, the Asif Jahi and the Nizam dynasties. It was during the rule of the Qutub Shahis that Hyderabad flourished and many magnificent palaces and monuments were built, adding to the beauty of the city.

Getting Around

The best way to explore Hyderabad's fascinating districts is by foot, although you're never far away from reliable transport. Make your way to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Terminus where you'll find buses to take you around the city on a variety of routes. The more adventurous can hop aboard an auto-rickshaw, but be prepared to haggle as it can difficult for non-locals to find a driver who will agree to a metered fare. Taxis are an alternative means of transport, but they can't be hailed from the street. You'll need to call to make a booking; and note that local cabs have digital meters that show the distance and fare.

Experience the majestic Charminar

No trip to Hyderabad is complete without a visit to the Charminar. One of the city's most important landmarks, this 'Masjid of the Four Minarets' was built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 to commemorate the end of a devastating epidemic. Standing 56m high and 30m wide, the four-columned structure features four arches facing the cardinal points, with a minaret sitting atop each column. A tip for shutterbugs: the Charminar is illuminated from 7pm to 9pm daily, making it the best time to capture some breathtaking shots.

Stand in awe at the colossal Mecca Masjid

Situated adjacent to the Charminar, the Mecca Masjid is one of the world's largest mosques, with enough space to accommodate over 10,000 worshippers. This iconic 17th century temple took almost 80 years to complete and is based on the Grand Mosque at Mecca, Islam's holiest site. Look out for the 15 graceful arches that support the roof of the main hall. And keep your eyes peeled for the famous minarets, taking the shape of inverted conches perched on the four sides of the roof.

Step back in time at the Salar Jung Museum

For a slice of Hyderabad's rich history, head to the Salar Jung Museum where you'll find a priceless collection of artefacts dating back to the 2nd century BC. Put together by Mir Yusaf Ali Khan (Salar Jung III), the grand vizier of the seventh Nizam, the museum's 35,000 exhibits include sculptures, wood carvings, Persian miniature paintings, illuminated manuscripts and an astounding 50,000 books.
